First edition (?) of this sino-malay divination / visionary / fortune telling / magical book written in verses.

"Boekoe meliatin" could be translated as "book of vision". It follows the Kwan Im (Kau cim / Kuan Yin) method of divination, with 30 chapters made of 25 stanzas of 4 verses. In his introduction the author says that you should not expect more than one answer to one question you ask to the book. He also states that his book contains some magic.

The book has been published after 1929 as the publishers advertises on the back cover a title that was published in 1929 and that he says is allmost out-of-print.

Damages to paper around the two staples, making the binding fragile. Still a good copy.

A probably complete set of this rare bi-weekly malay speaking chinese magazine. 

It is the continuation of weekly "Pantjawarna", published in Tasikmalaya and edited by the same Indonesian writer of Chinese descent, Pouw Kioe An. 

Also known as Romo or Sastradjaja, Pouw Kioe An was born in Cianjur in 1906. He served in numerous newspapers and magazines and is an important figure of pre and post-independance malay-speaking ethnic chinese ("peranakan") literature. The first chapters of his famous novel Oh, Prampoean! (O, Perempuan!), published in 1937, appear here for the first time.

Intended for the Chinese community living in the Netherland Indies, this bi-weekly was strongly supporting the integration of the ethnic chinese in the country and published various news from around the world, essays, poetry, tales and novels, not only of Chinese interest. Repeated stamps and handwritten signature of Mr. Tan Djoen Siang, from Yogyakarta.

Cloth of binding used, paper a bit browned, a good+ copy.

First collective edition, privately printed by the author to a few copies only and intented to be used for the reading of these short stories by the author himsellf at Taman Ismail Mazurki on 27 August 1980.

The short stories include : Tua, Huru-Hara, Pian, Menunggu, Pensiunan, Surat, Puas, Mata, Perut, Bacot, Sama, Tamu, Jahanan, Sakit, Pelacur, Dan, Tolong.

Non-religious, educational or folkloric books published in eastern Indonesia are rare. The Arnoldus press was founded in 1925 by catholic mission Societas Verbi Divini and was leant against the Nusa Indah publishing house and bookshop in 1955 (see Henri Chambert-Loir in Archipel, n° 8, 1974, pp. 31-34).

Unreadable signature, dated  25 dec. 1980, and stamp from Esmasuk shop in Surakarta on half title. Some signs of wear, mostly on the wrappers, and occasional foxing. A good copy.
